WE...

By Karl Louis Guillen(*)

Where is my companion humanity?

Where are those protective arms?

Where is that friend at my funeral?

For we are dying in these hells.

We are dying in the Americas,

we are dying in the Chinas,

we are starving in the Africas.

We are raped in the prisons,

we are stomped in our writing cells,

we are gagged and tortured for the “Truth”.

Yet you seek only to see our red blood.

You watch fascinated by our flaws,

they are stealing our youth.

You are hipnotised by the violence,

you are lulled by badges to laws and more laws.

You feel, but remain hidden behind your door,

you hear the screams, but play your music louder,

you see the wounds, but hide your purses.

And you know that this will happen again,

and you’ll know its ring is true,

when you feel the steel on you...
